Description:
Cognitive science is the interdisciplinary study of mind and intelligence, operating at the intersection of psychology, philosophy, computer science, linguistics, anthropology, and neuroscience. This course is an introduction to the study of intelligence, mind, brain from an interdisciplinary perspective. We will focus on some fundamental questions in cognitive science research: how the mind works, the nature of reason, how thought processes are reflected in the language we use, and what kinds of representations must be postulated to explain human intelligence or to develop computer intelligence. We also discuss powerful mathematical tools (e.g. Bayesian inference, Information theory, Hypothesis testing, Markov process) and advanced signal processing methods (e.g. Information theoretic learning, Kernel adaptive filtering) that will be applied in cognitive modeling and analysis.
